Characteristics:
* Flowers yellow, starlike, clustered on a slender spike. Petals show a circle of red spots.
* Leaves opposite on stalk.
* Height: 1-2'.

Natural History:
* Flowers June - September.
* Habitat: Swampy spots and grassy shores.
* Range: Southeastern Canada, northeastern and north-central United States.
* Native.

Connections!
* Flowers in the genus Lysimachia have no nectar.

* In 1638, John Josselyn wrote in "An Account of Two Voyages to New-England Made during the Years 1638, 1663" of a "yellow Lysimachus of Virginia."
