Summerbridge Development Intern Position Description

This summer, SBC will implement a major public relations and development initiative, including a donor visitors' program and a major family and community PR and fundraising event called Celebration, to be held in August. One development intern will support these efforts through the following responsibilities:

General projects:

•Help design and produce public relations materials, including event invitations and programs.
•Collaborate with Summerbridge teachers and students to plan aspects of Celebration.
•Collaborate with the development team to reach summer performance goals, focusing on in-kind donations and revenue from special events
•Recruit, welcome and host visitors to SBC. •  Communicate with local media to highlight SBC. •  Update SBC PR materials.

Celebration -specific projects:

•  Provide support to staff and volunteer committees for the Celebration event. These committees work to attract corporate sponsors and attendees to the event.
•  Ensure recognition for event sponsors
•  Manage the logistics of the event, including technology, setup, food, decorations etc.
•  Communicate with SBC summer staff and students to build understanding of the event's fundraising component.

2008 Summer Program Dates

Teacher Orientation Monday, June 16 – Friday,
June 27 Summer Program Monday, June 30 – Friday,
August 8 Evaluation Week Monday,
August 11 – Friday, August 15

Note: We encourage applications from candidates who have partial conflicts with Teacher Orientation and Evaluation Week, as the schedule these weeks is somewhat flexible

 Nuts & Bolts

The intern will work approximately 40 hours a week from mid-June to mid-August. Celebration will be the evening of Thursday, August 7. This is a stipend position.
SBC is located at the Kennedy-Longfellow School in East Cambridge .
The ideal intern is responsible, articulate, detail oriented and computer savvy. Commitment to educational equity essential. Experience with non-profits or projects such as school yearbooks or drama production would be helpful. Familiarity with the Summerbridge/Breakthrough model or the Cambridge community a plus.
