Tolstoy Links

Tolstoy Studies Journal
A superb scholarly site with a wealth of fascinating information about Tolstoy, including rare photographs, motion picture footage of Tolstoy, and excellent links. For serious anglophone Tolstoyans, probably the best place to start.

Lev Tolstoy
A lovely U.S. site, entirely in English, with a wealth of Tolstoy resources, including many e-texts. The links are largely outdated.

Wellesley Subscribed Databases
Explore these excellent resources, especially Naxos Music Library and Classical Music Library for music, and JSTOR for scholarly articles on Russian literature.

Wellesley Library's Reference Books Online
Trying to figure out unfamiliar historical, cultural or biographical references in Tolstoy’s works? Please start here (Britannica online is a good first step) rather than trolling the Internet or blindly relying on Wikipedia, whose articles on Russian history and culture can be extremely inconsistent and unreliable.

Project Gutenberg: Tolstoy
The public-domain Tolstoy e-texts available at Project Gutenberg.

Twenty-Three Tales
English e-texts of 23 tales by Tolstoy, mostly minor and hard-to-find works; hosted by Calvin College.

Tolstoy Texts (in Russian)
Excellent collection of Tolstoy e-texts, biography and criticism, all in the original Russian.

Tolstoy Portal (in Russian)
This site allows users to search Tolstoy's bibliographic data and full-text resources of the Russian National Library and the Iasnaia Poliana State Library -- a treasure trove of all Tolstoy's texts.

Lev Tolstoy (in Russian)
An elegant Russian site, mostly devoted to Tolstoy’s life and religious writings.

Tolstoy Foundation
Homepage of the humanitarian foundation in upstate New York created by Tolstoy’s daughter Aleksandra.

Tolstoy's Works
A useful English-language bibliography of Tolstoy’s works, along with dates of first publication

The Last Days of Lev Tolstoy
A simple English-language site devoted to "The Last Days of Lev Nikolaevich Tolstoy," published in Moscow in 1911 by Tolstoy’s close friend and assistant Vladimir Chertkov.

Images of Lev Tolstoy
Some images of Lev Tolstoy at an anarchist site.

Photos of Iasnaia Poliana
A modest, English-language virtual tour of Iasnaia Poliana, Tolstoy’s estate south of Moscow.
