Sociology at Wellesley

The numerous human rights classes that I took in the sociology department confirmed my desire to become a lawyer who will work to protect the rights of individuals harmed by others. More specifically, the course work helped me to develop a research project investigating human rights conditions in Costa Rica on a Fulbright Fellowship. Sociology courses familiarized me with the concepts, organizations, and treaties that I subsequently studied in a Public International Law course in law school and refined my analysis and presentation of complex social problems and their potential solutions. The courses provided an important foundation for my legal career, both in their substantive content and by serving as a source of inspiration to help individuals in less advantageous social positions.
