Historical Note
Wellesley College, first named The Wellesley Female Seminary, was founded in 1870 by Henry and Pauline Durant. In 1875, 314 students enrolled as part of the first class. 18 of those women graduated in 1879.
Scope and Contents
Records of the Class of 1883; dating from 1881 to 1935; consisting of correspondence, programs, invitations, memorabilia, clippings, photo albums, notebooks; concerning student activities, reunions, and alumnae activities; including material on Henry Durant's death, Ada Howard resignation and Alice Freeman becoming President, an alphabet plate used at hoop rolling, Tree Day costume.
