Historical Note
Wellesley College, first named The Wellesley Female Seminary, was founded in 1870 by Henry and Pauline Durant. In 1875, 314 students enrolled as part of the first class. 18 of those women graduated in 1879.
Scope and Contents
Records of the Class of 1888; dating from 1885 to 1988; consisting of correspondence, clippings, notebooks, scrapbooks, photo albums, programs, invitations, class history; concerning undergraduate and alumnae activities, reunions; including course notebooks of Emma Condit and Maud Hadley, scrapbooks of Ella Smith Elbert, E.B. Peckham and Florence Ellery; photo album '88 Grandchildren; and paper on letters from Sophanisba Breckinridge's mother to her at Wellesley; also concerning Lyman Abbott, Honorary Member of the Class.
