Historical Note

Wellesley College, first named The Wellesley Female Seminary, was founded in 1870 by Henry and Pauline Durant. In 1875, 314 students enrolled as part of the first class. 18 of those women graduated in 1879.

Scope and Contents

Records of the Class of 1897; dating from 1893 to 1957; consisting of correspondence, clippings, invitations, memorabilia, programs, scrapbooks, course notes, syllabus, songs; concerning class activities as students and alumnae; including scrapbooks of Mary E. Simonds, Nellie G. Prescott, Evelyn Munroe, Elizabeth Hicox, and Geneva Crumb; also including Elizabeth Randall's course notebook for "New Testament III," and Harriet Moore's English Literature notes.
