LAW & ECONOMICS

Assignment 1

For this and all other assignments (including your Final Presentation), you may work alone or with a group of your classmates.

By September 20 , you should have located two high quality web sites on topics that you are considering for your Final Presentation. The links on the Course Description, Course Outline & Readings, Final Paper and the Betty Febo's Course Page for Econ325 provide good places to start.

For additional ideas click here to go to a  web portal for law and economics or here for a general portal for law. When using web based materials, it is important to evaluate their relative merit.

You should find at least one of the two sites idenpendently. That is, the site should not be linked to the Econ325 web site or to Betty's Course Page for Econ325. Complete a RITE evaluate for the site that you identify independently.

There is no need to evaluate sites linked to the Econ325 web site or to Betty Febo's Course Page for Econ325. Betty & I have evaluated the sites that are hyperlinked to our web sites for the course.

You will be asked to assess the quality of all major web sites that you identify independently & use for your Final Presentation using RITE system and this assignment is designed to give you practice using the RITE system.

Your assignment is to place the following in the folder named "Assignment 1" in the "Econ325-Drop" folder in the First Class conference for Econ 325 (Name: "Econ325-01-F08").

  1. Citations for the sites in APA or MLA form for citing electronic sources. Betty Febo & I recommend that you use either KnightCite or EndNote for your references
  2. A  brief description (a couple of sentences) of the content of the site
  3.  Your evaluation of at least one of the sites using the RITE system.

During the semester all students/groups will presnt their work on at least one assignment. Each student/group will also serve as a Commentator/Advisor and make comments & suggestions on the presentation. Presentation should last approximately 10 minutes & comments/suggestion should last approximately 5 minutes. I will strictly enforce these time limits.

Email Econ223-Ask Ann & Saundra by September 17 at the latest to request the presenter or Commentator/Advisor role for this week. In you request to be presenter include your permission for us to send you answer to this assignment to this week's Commentator/Advisor. If we do not have a volunteer presenter & Financial Advisor by 5PM on September 17 we will assign students to Presenter & Advisor roles.

The Presenter for this Assignment should prepare a presentation that discusses both the topic in which she is interested and her RITE evaluation. She will give her presentation at the beginning of class on September 20.

The Commentator/Advisor for this week will discuss the proposed topic suggesting source materials, pointing out interesting aspects of the topic & making constructive suggestions for moving forward with the topic.
