Welcome to the Wellesley College Wintersession Program in Rome! With its artistic traditions and present-day cultural vitality, Rome offers students a wide range of opportunities for personal enrichment. As Italy's capital city, Rome has a cultural and intellectual life which is unsurpassed. Rome is simultaneously a cosmopolitan metropolis with all the attractions and amenities of a major European capital, as well as a provincial city with an imminently human pace. Getting to know the city and the people, how they speak and live now, means falling into the rhythm of the place.

About the Study Abroad Program

The School

Students study at Domus Aurea, a reputable Italian and Culture Language Institute run by Dott.ssa Nella Leo and a staff of qualified and helpful ladies ready to assist you while in Rome. Domus Aurea has hosted numerous groups of students from a variety of countries over the past 10 years, so its staff have a lot of experience with foreigners and their needs.

The school is centrally located at walking distance from the railway central station Termini, the Coliseum, the Forum and other main historical and artistic attractions in Rome. There are buses and subway stations nearby that connect this part of Rome with all parts of the city.

Here you will attend your daily classes, interact with the Italian speaking staff and other foreign students, check your e-mail, read the newspaper, and choose your afternoon and evening activities among the ones offered by either the program.

The school has a vending machine for coffee, cappuccino, soft drinks and water. Several bars are near the school, there you can get a snack during class breaks and practice Italian with the bar owners and customers.

Schedule

Classes for Wintersession Italian 202 will be held daily at Domus Aurea Monday through Friday from 9:00 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. A 15-minute break at 10:30 will give you the chance to stretch your legs and get something to drink or eat. The course will be team-taught by David Ward and Flavia Laviosa.

Afternoons will be free to study or participate in the several cultural activities that the program will offer. On weekends, the program will offer one-day trips to places of historical and artistic interest. For your Italian 202 course, films, copies of readings and other materials will also be provided by the program.
