- Tools and Techniques in Photoshop (to get more detailed information about these tools use Photoshop > Help):
Color |
The Color Balance command changes the overall mixture of colors in an image for generalized color correction.
|
Clone Stamp Tool |
The Clone Stamp tool takes a sample of an image, which you can then apply over another image or part of the same image. You can also clone part of one layer over another layer. Each stroke of the tool paints on more of the sample..
|
Cropping |
Cropping is the process of removing portions of an image to create focus or strengthen the composition. You can crop an image using the Crop tool and the Crop command. You can also trim pixels using the Trim command
|
Masks |
Masks let you isolate and protect areas of an image as you apply color changes, filters, or other effects to the rest of the image. When you select part of an image, the area that is not selected is "masked" or protected from editing. You can also use masks for complex image editing such as gradually applying color or filter effects to an image.
|
Channels |
The Channels palette lets you create and manage channels and monitor the effects of editing. The palette lists all channels in the image--composite channel first (for RGB, CMYK, and Lab images), then individual color channels, spot color channels, and finally alpha channels. A thumbnail of the channel's contents appears to the left of the channel name; the thumbnail automatically updates as you edit the channel.
|
Selecting |
You can smooth the hard edges of a selection by anti-aliasing and by feathering.
|
Moving |
The Move tool lets you drag a selection or layer to a new location in the image. With the Info palette open, you can track the exact distance of the move. You can also use the Move tool to align selections and layers and distribute layers within an image. |
- Tips:
• Be sure to start early so you can bring your questions and problems to office hours.
• Name your layers as soon as you create them. It'll be much easier than changing them all later. Make sure the names you choose are simple and easy to type. When you need to pick one little part of a complex image, it is MUCH easier to pick it by name than with the mouse.
• Take the time to learn the keyboard shortcuts.
• Last but not least - save EARLY and save OFTEN!
•Artists to look at are Yasumasa Morimura, Melanie Pullen, Ellen KOOI, Gabriel Jones, Angela Strassheim, Charlie White, Nikki S. Lee, David LaChapelle, Gregory Crewdson, Elke Morris and Andreas Gursky.
